CAPS Edmonton shares in a strong spirit towards giving within our community. The following programs highlight our focus and commitment for 2012, while offering guidance on how you can participate. We welcome and encourage your active involvement in any or all of these initiatives.
Throughout the year, we will share progress updates at our regular meetings, outlining how these efforts are helping those organization and individuals identified as being in need within our community.
Inquiries can be directed to our Spirit of Giving champions, i.e. our board of directors.
Giving to the CAPS Foundation
Our chapter has been very active in supporting the newly formed CAPS Foundation. One of our members is a Foundation trustee, we make donations on behalf of any non-CAPS Edmonton monthly guest speakers, and we have been instrumental in creating events in support of the foundation. For example, Wayne Lee and Bob Hooey recently created the CAPS Foundation event at the 2011 CAPS convention in Toronto. That evening helped raise over $35,000.
Giving Through Travel
Many speakers are engaged in regular travel as part of their business. We invite both members and guests to gather toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, body lotion, soap) from hotels during your travels. These items when collected in bulk will then be donated to homeless shelters, the Edmonton Food Bank, and women's shelter's within our community.
Food Bank Drive
We invite members and guests of CAPS Edmonton to bring donations of food items for the Edmonton Food Bank to any chapter meeting or fireside chat. The Food Bank ensures that those who are most in need within our community are aided, offering help to those less fortunate in their time of need and to help bring more sparkles during the holiday season.
Warm Wishes
During the winter season, we welcome the donation of blankets for those less fortunate. Members and guests are encouraged to bring their blankets to any CAPS meeting or fireside chat, which will then be donated to Edmonton Emergency Relief Services in support of the annual Blanket Alberta in Warmth Campaign.
We invite our members to share their favorite places to give and challenge our colleagues to assist where they can.
