CAPS is a family of professional speakers committed to excellence, ethics, and continued professional growth and improvement. CAPS Edmonton is one of 10 chapters across Canada. Whether you speak as primary or part of your business, train as part of a full time role, enjoyed presenting as part of previous roles, or are simply considering a career as a speaker, CAPS Edmonton will provide access to the tools and opportunities needed to build relationships to increase your growth and achievement.
We are proud to be the association of choice for professional who speak, train, and facilitate who are based in the greater Edmonton and Northern Alberta regions. Our members have been engaged to deliver presentations across North America and across the globe.
We share in a mission to raise the profile and professionalism of our members. Through enhanced education, focused programming, and networking, we are committed to helping one another to hone our skills at securing more business and in delivering expertise.
Each month we meet (with the exception of a summer break) to grow our speaking business, learn about relevant competencies, network, and establish referral relationships. We typically meet on the 2nd Saturday of each month. Supplemental learning is available through tele-classes, special signature events, and a CAPS National Conference.
Membership with CAPS National offers a listing on the CAPS National website search engine, a listing on our CAPS Edmonton website search engine, as well as an automatic membership and profile with the Global Speakers Federation website search engine, which increases visibility and accessibility.
We are confident in our belief that CAPS Edmonton is one of the most friendly and encouraging places to be when building or sustaining a speaking career.
CAPS offers several categories of membership.
Qualifications for the Professional, Associate and Candidate categories are based on income, experience and willingness to abide by our Code of Professional Ethics. Affiliate memberships are open to bureaus, meeting planners, suppliers, salaried speakers and people from other industry related groups.
Currently, there are five National membership categories for which you may apply.
Professional Membership: a Member who has had at least twenty (20) fee-paid presentations within the 12 months prior to application; or has given at least twenty (20) presentations to audiences of 12 or more as part of a salaried position within the 12 months prior to application; or has made at least $25,000 giving presentations within 12 months prior to application.
Candidate Membership: a Member who as earned a portion of his or her income from at least 10 fee-paid engagements with no time limit. Any individual can remain a Candidate member for a period of twenty four months, after which he or she must become a professional member.
Supplier Membership: (i.e. a Speakers Bureau(s); or a Supplier of materials, equipment or services to professional speakers)
Expatriate Membership: a Member who qualifies for professional membership category status; Is a Canadian citizen; lives outside of Canada.
Retired Membership: A professional member of CAPS for five years; no more than five fee-paid speaking engagements per year; retired.
